About Anxiety Therapy

Anxiety is your body's natural response to stress. At healthy levels, it keeps us safe and alert. However, unhealthy levels of anxiety can truly interfere with life. It can even paralyze you, stopping you from living fully and engaging in relationships.

According to the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) Model, all behavior serves a purpose, including anxiety. It protects you. But when anxiety becomes overwhelming, it shows us a clue to an underlying wound. At Kairos Counseling & Family Therapy, we see anxiety as this clue. We explore its presence. We approach it with curiosity and acceptance. Together, we will work to mediate anxiety's power over your life.

Anxiety is a core part of several different conditions. These include:

  • Panic Disorder: Experiencing recurring, unexpected panic attacks and living in fear of the next one.
  • Phobia: Having an excessive fear of a specific object, situation, or activity.
  • Social Anxiety Disorder: Feeling extreme fear of being judged by others in social situations.
  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD): Struggling with recurring irrational thoughts that lead to specific, repeated behaviors.
  • Separation Anxiety Disorder: Fearing being away from home or loved ones.
  • Illness Anxiety Disorder: Experiencing excessive anxiety about your health.
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): Developing anxiety following a traumatic event.

How Does Kairos Anxiety Counseling Work?

Anxiety affects both your mind and body. Because of this, Kairos Counseling & Family Therapy provides a multi-modal therapy approach for anxiety. We combine various effective techniques to support your complete well-being.

Our comprehensive approach includes:

  • Psychoeducation: We help you understand exactly what anxiety is. This knowledge allows you to better work with your anxiety. You learn to approach it with greater understanding.
  • Mindfulness: This practice offers bodily relief from the somatic symptoms of anxiety. We engage your body in "Right Here, Right Now" living. This grounds you in the present.
  • EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing): This powerful therapy reprocesses traumatic moments. These past events often lead your body to adopt anxiety for protection. EMDR helps resolve these root causes.

Frequently asked questions

Don't let questions stop you from receiving the care you deserve!

What makes Kairos Counseling's anxiety therapy different?

Our Dallas anxiety therapy combines EMDR, mindfulness, and psychoeducation to treat both symptoms and root causes. Unlike temporary coping strategies, we help reprocess traumatic memories (via EMDR) while teaching Polyvagal Theory techniques to calm your nervous system - ideal for Texans struggling with panic attacks, OCD, or PTSD.

Can therapy really help with constant worrying and panic attacks?

Yes. At Kairos Counseling, we specialize in severe anxiety treatment using evidence-based methods. For panic attacks, we use grounding techniques and EMDR to reduce their frequency/ intensity. For chronic worry, mindfulness and nervous system regulation help break the cycle. Most clients see reduced symptoms within 6-8 sessions.

How does EMDR work for anxiety disorders?

EMDR therapy identifies and reprocesses the traumatic memories causing your anxiety (childhood events, accidents, etc.). As a certified EMDRIA provider in Dallas, we use bilateral stimulation to help your brain store these memories properly - which often decreases anxiety triggers, phobias, and OCD behaviors long-term.

What if my anxiety feels too overwhelming for therapy?

Many clients feel this way initially. Our Dallas therapists first focus on stabilization techniques (breathing exercises, Safe & Sound Protocol) to make therapy manageable. We progress at your pace - whether you need help with social anxiety, health worries, or trauma-based fear. The free 15-minute consultation lets you test the waters safely.
